MEDITECH LIVE 2024 Summary
MEDITECH LIVE 2024 marked its highest attendance since pre-COVID, underscoring the community's growing enthusiasm. The event included an engaging keynote from Zack Kass, who excited the audience, comparing AI to the industrial revolution and the invention of the printing press.
Several important development efforts were highlighted:
Traverse Product: MEDITECH highlighted the impacts in the Canadian market and shared that it is now available in the U.S. Traverse is positioned as a tool to help community hospitals remain independent while facilitating seamless information sharing with academic medical centers and specialists. The goal is to have all Expanse customers leveraging Traverse by the end of 2025. Traverse is an interoperability platform designed to help community hospitals remain independent while maintaining strong integration with academic medical centers and specialist networks. The platform enables seamless data exchange across diverse healthcare systems, enhancing care coordination and collaboration.
Laboratory: Expanse Pathology will be available with a focus on precision medicine, providing stronger integration to oncology and genomics. Expanse Outreach is also being rolled out.
Outpatient Therapies: MEDITECH is developing enhanced functionality for outpatient therapies leveraging Ambulatory to meet the needs of outpatient clinics, improving care delivery and efficiency.
Problem List Evolution: The problem list is being enhanced to transition a problem from one concept to another, moving from general to specific and tracking progression of Disease.
Behavioral Health: The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) descriptions will be added to the problem list, which will provide two approaches for behavioral health documentation.
Supply Chain Overhaul: MEDITECH is rewriting its supply chain application to streamline operations, increase efficiency and leverage mobility.
Measurable Insights: This will include enhancements to standard metrics and dashboards to improve analysis and data driven decision making. It will also include enhancement to allow reporting on measures of use for physicians, (e.g. time on documentation), and ambulatory throughput, as well as many others.
Looking ahead, version 2.3, expected to be available in Q4 2025, MEDITECH will introduce several significant enhancements:
Expanse Nursing: MEDITECH will provide more flexible documentation tools and leverage Elsevier evidenced-based content for more robust and standardized nursing documentation. It will also include a streamlined Medication Administration Record (MAR) leveraging stronger integration with pharmacy and more intuitive Transfusion administration navigation. Enhancements to allow AI for nursing shift change reports are also coming.
Oncology Enhancements: Version 2.3 will include Dynamic Regimen ordering and interfacility ordering for oncology, making complex treatment plans and cross-facility collaboration more efficient. It will streamline treatment authorization and the prior authorization process and provide improved clinic workflows.
